With February at an end, we’re so close to spring we can practically smell the fresh flowers in bloom. This month was monumental for Winged Boots. It started off fantastically thanks to managing director David Ox and his wife Lauren becoming parents after the birth of their son Otis. We also heard new music from The 1975 at our box at The O2 and staff had various training session from travel professionals within the industry. The product team also enjoyed a night out at Ballie Ballerson in Shoreditch while marketing manager Lauren Godfrey and business development manager Gemma Saunders practised their swing with a fun golf-themed evening hosted by Nobu Hotels.
DANCING TO THE 1975 AT THE O2
One of our greatest assets is our private O2 box, and we love to fill it with customers and staff eager to let their hair down and enjoy a good show. Previously, we’ve hosted concerts from performers such as Cher, Michael Bublé and Jack Whitehall, which have all been a success, and this month saw English pop rock band The 1975 take centre stage.
This time our box was home to various influencers who were in the UK for VidCon London including Manny Gutierrez, Harrison Webb, Chelsey Amaro and Imari Stuart among others. Speaking about the event, Harrison said, “The 1975 absolutely smashed it and it was great to hear one of their new unreleased songs for the first time. Winged Boots kindly provided the box and it was great to be surrounded by my best friends. Without Winged Boots I wouldn’t have had such great memories to look back on. Thanks again!”
TRAINED BY INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
As well as assisting with booking your holidays, February has also been a month that has seen various training sessions get underway from some of our key industry partners. Canopy Marketing recently came in to talk about the wonderful Niyama Private Islands Maldives. An Indian Ocean gem, the entire team were educated on the property which is spread across two islands and has an underwater restaurant, a fantastic kids’ club and lavish accommodation.
Visit Finland also popped in to showcase the beauty of every corner of this Nordic country… it’s not just saunas and snow you know? Plus, we brushed up our knowledge on Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Barbados. Surrounded by 11-acres of lush greenery and found on a half-mile stretch of beach, the views and location are incredible. Conrad Algarve finished the month off with a deeper look into the hotel, too.
“This year we’ve sat down with all of the personal travel managers and asked them what would benefit them,” product executive Ellen Stevens said. “To have someone come in from the hotel gives the agents fresh knowledge and a better understanding of both the hotel and destination. Not only that but it also builds relationships and it’s always good to know who we’re talking to on the hotel side when it comes to booking holidays for our customers.”
WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS OF THE TEAM
A new month has seen the marketing team expand with two additions to the gang. Rachel Lane has a wealth of marketing knowledge, previously working in the arts as well as the health and fitness industry. “I’ve always enjoyed travelling and going on holiday,” Rachel said. “Now I get to write about it as my job… it’s like a dream!”
Nichola Watson has also joined the team as a graphic designer. Previously working for Hotel Chocolat, this role sees Nichola working on sweet destinations instead of the sweet treat. “I’m excited to bring my design expertise to Winged Boots and ensure that our digital experience is as flawless as our customer service,” Nichola said. “I’m a big foodie and travel to seek out new culinary experiences, but am happiest when on – or in – the water whether it’s sailing, diving, canoeings a brisk morning swim or just bobbing along in some azure, crystal waters. Oh, and it’s always followed by lunch!”
SCORING A HOLE IN ONE WITH NOBU HOTELS
Thursday 13th February saw marketing manager Lauren Godfrey and personal travel and business development manager Gemma Saunders pitch and putt at Swingers in the West End with Nobu Hotels. The networking event saw teams of four go against each other with a game of mini golf, along with pizzas, burgers, cocktails and mingling in between.
“It was a great event which saw 30 people attend,” Gemma said. “I came first in my team which I’m very proud of, and myself and Lauren were even more lucky as we won two-nights at Nobu Hotel London Portman Square and Nobu Hotel Shoreditch respectively. A big thank you to Nobu for hosting such a brilliant evening!”

January 29th saw a new addition to the Ox and Winged Boots family, as Otis Edwin Ox was born and our managing director David Ox and his wife Lauren became proud parents. Weighing 5lbs 3, Otis is happy and healthy, bringing joy every day to Lauren, David and the rest of the family.
PLAYING IN A BALL PIT AT BALLIE BALLERSON SHOREDITCH
The destination team from Ocean Florida and the product team from Winged Boots recently went to Ballie Ballerson Shoreditch for some mid-week fun. One of two London venues, Ballie Ballerson is the only ball pit cocktail bar in the capital and guests can enjoy playing in the venue along with a range of retro inspired drinks. “It was great way to let off steam,” product executive Ellen Stevens said. “Ballie Ballerson was a brilliant venue and offered a different experience to a standard bar thanks to the ball pit. I would definitely go back.”
