Ultra Luxury Mauritius Holidays

A holiday in Mauritius is like spending time in paradise. With 330 kilometres of coastline and white beaches nearly everywhere, this tropical island in the Indian Ocean is a haven for romance and luxury. Mauritius is the postcard for tropical island living with pristine powder-soft beaches fringed by swaying palm trees but don’t forget the wealth of other selling points – from sightseeing options and rich culture to the many family-focused activities. Watersports are popular here, with world-class snorkelling available at Pereybere Beach and Long Beach on the island of Île aux Cerfs. Mauritius is surrounded by one of the largest unbroken barrier reefs in the world, so it's one of the best places to go scuba diving. The island also has some impressive natural landscapes, including forests and 800-metre-high mountains home to rare wildlife. The island’s close links with a number of other countries can be seen throughout its culture – whether it's Creole cooking, a nod to its proximity to Madagascar, or the Chateaux de Labourdonnais, in northern Mauritius, from when the island was under French rule. Other attractions include the dormant Trou aux Cerfs volcano, where you can photograph the Seven Coloured Earth, or enjoy a sweet experience at the sugar museum, L’Aventure du Sucre. And if you want to end your day with something a little livelier, why not hit the island’s best bars and clubs on Royal Road in Grand Baie? A picture-perfect choice all around. Winged Boots Wisdom: There may be virtually every watersport to choose from, but golf lovers will be equally at home in Mauritius. You can marvel at the pristine courses, and spend time working on your handicap. And in May, look out for some of the world’s best talent, when the AfrAsia Mauritius Open golf tournament takes place.

Mauritius In A Nutshell

Life’s A Beach

Grand Baie offers the biggest range of activities for watersport enthusiasts with everything from tandem skydiving and Solar Sea walks to kitesurfing and snorkelling on offer.

An ideal spot for families is Trou aux Biches which has classic white sand beaches and clear, shallow waters. It's an especially lovely setting to catch the sunset. .

While the romantics might like to sample the offshore island of Île aux Cerfs, especially during the week rather than the busy weekends, there are also plenty of watersports to occupy active families alongside some of the prettiest views in Mauritius, of course.

Blue Bay is a protected marine park and has the island’s best underwater scenery close to the shore. Glass bottom boat trips and snorkelling are probably the best ways to experience the beauty. Look out for resident dolphins and turtles too.

On the east side of Mauritius, the beaches are more secluded but just as stunning. Belle Mare is a sugar-white beach with calm turquoise waters and shade under the casuarina trees.

Soak Up The Culture

Mauritius’ capital Port Louis has several cultural attractions to appeal to all. The Blue Penny Museum is home to the world’s first colonial stamp while the Natural History Museum houses an ancient dodo skeleton.

The Mauritius Botanical Garden is one of the most popular tourist attractions and a real paradise for nature lovers. The spectacular garden covers 37 hectares and is famous for its giant water lilies, spice garden and unique collection of 85 varieties of palms.

Take a visit to Ile aux Aigrettes, a coral reef islet, thought to be the last resting place of the dodo and witness giant Aldabra tortoises and pink pigeons living in the semi-wild.

Go southwest to Le Morne Brabant, a peninsula with Le Morne mountain towering above it. At 556 metres high, the mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historical significance.

Witness first-hand the diverse cultural influences on the island, from Creole cooking and Port Louis' China Town to historical French sugar plantations and Hindu temples.

Family Fun Guaranteed

Mauritius is not just about beautiful beaches offering perfect rest and relaxation – there is plenty for all the family. The Aquarium in Grand Baie is loved by all ages with children getting the chance to feed fish and get up close and personal to sharks.

The Casela Nature Parks have lots for all the family including the longest zipline in the Indian Ocean, quad bikes, segways, a 4D cinema, mud karting, giraffe feeding and camel rides.

The La Vanille Nature Park is equally popular with the opportunity to see baby Aldabra tortoises and crocodiles or play in the jungle playground.

Need an adrenaline fix? La Valleé Des Couleurs Nature Park is where you'll find the longest zipline in the southern hemisphere and you'll see a kaleidoscope of forests, waterfalls, pools and mountains from above.
