Changi Airport in Singapore is the most awarded airport in the world and currently has 563 accolades to its name… and for good reason. After it’s huge development in the 1970s, Changi has now found itself at the top of the international travel world and is a beacon for corporate travellers around the globe. Serving more than 100 airlines and flying to more than 400 cities spanning 100 countries and territories worldwide, Changi is a superpower in the travel trade. Each week approximately 7,200 flights land or depart from the airport which also sees an excess of 62.2 million passengers pass through its doors each year. Named ‘The World’s Best Airport’ for the sixth consecutive year in 2018 at the World Airport Awards we’re pretty sure it’ll scoop up the gong next year too if its latest $1.7 billion mixed-use development Jewel is anything to go by.

Set to house approximately 300 retail and food and beverage outlets, Jewel is sure to transform your usual airport dining experience

Set to open early 2019, Jewel Changi Airport is a hub of extraordinary design and landscaped gardens. The 10-storey complex will span a whopping 134,000 square metres and is set to encompass a variety of aviation and travel-related facilities. Planned to house approximately 300 retail and food and beverage outlets, Jewel is sure to transform your usual airport dining experience.

Comprising five-storeys above ground and five basement levels, Jewel will also be directly connected and within walking distance to Terminals one, two and three. However, catching your flight will be the least of your worries when you see the amazing nature-based attractions inside.

Designed by famous architect Moshe Safdie, the brain behind another Singapore icon, Marina Bay Sands, the exterior of Jewel is a sight to behold. But nothing compares to its inside attractions. The development will be home to the largest collection of plants in Singapore with around 22,000 square metres dedicated to landscaping throughout the project. Its centrepiece is Forest Valley, a huge five-storey garden filled with trees and plants. At its core is the mesmerising rain vortex, a 40-metre high circular waterfall that transforms after dark to offer visitors an awe-inspiring light show.

Jewel will also feature Canopy Park at the very top of the structure that’s complete with Sky Nets. A world first, this attraction comprises nets suspended high in the air that visitors are able to walk across. The highlight of this excitement is walking over a void and looking down 25m to Jewel’s level one. There will also be two mazes, a hedge version and mirror alternative, to entertain all ages. Plus, there are four slides to keep children happy.

To take in Jewel in all its glory, you can simply wander along Canopy Bridge that’s complete with a glass bottom to offer 360-degree views. Alternatively, experience something new at Foggy Bowls, an area with four gentle concave bowls that will shoot out mist to give the sensation of walking amongst the clouds.

The complex will also play host to a hotel and interactive space that tells the story of the airport’s rise to success. Due to open early 2019, if you’d like to visit this wonder then call us today on 020 3816 0985 to book your trip to Singapore and beyond. We promise to incorporate a few hours layover in Jewel so you can really soak up this structure for yourself.
