Some hotel rooms are memorable for their size. Others for their private pools, marble bathrooms or impeccable service. But sometimes, it’s what lies beyond the window – or, in one case, above the bed – that makes a room truly extraordinary.
Imagine watching Niagara Falls thunder below, seeing the morning light reach the Taj Mahal from your balcony or waking to find a giraffe stretching its neck towards your window. From Alaska’s frozen wilderness to the depths of the Indian Ocean, these luxury hotels prove that when the view is this good, the room becomes a destination in its own right.

The room to book: Galaxy Sanctuary
At Jade Mountain, the view isn’t something you admire through a window. It’s part of the architecture.
Every sanctuary has been designed without a conventional fourth wall, opening the living space directly to Saint Lucia’s Pitons, Caribbean Sea and tropical surroundings while maintaining privacy. For the most commanding panorama, choose a Galaxy Sanctuary. Located on the south-west corner of Jade Mountain, these are the resort’s largest sanctuaries, averaging 2,000 square feet, with private infinity pools of around 900 square feet.
The result blurs the boundary between room and landscape. Swim with the Pitons ahead of you, watch the light change across the Caribbean from bed and, as evening arrives, let the scenery provide the entertainment – the sanctuaries deliberately go without televisions and radios.

The room to book: Any of the five guest rooms
No room upgrade is required at Sheldon Chalet. All five bedrooms come with the sort of outlook that would be difficult to improve upon.
Set at an elevation of 6,000 feet on a privately owned nunatak in Denali National Park, the chalet overlooks Ruth Glacier in the Don Sheldon Amphitheater. Its five Nordic-inspired bedrooms have views towards the amphitheater, Denali and the surrounding peaks, with panoramic mountain scenery visible from bed.
Here, remoteness is the luxury. There are no neighbouring hotels or city lights competing for attention – just glacier, mountains and an immense Alaskan sky. After dark, head to the observation platform, where the helipad doubles as a spot for late-night stargazing and, when conditions oblige, aurora watching.

The room to book: The Muraka
For one of the world’s most extraordinary hotel views, forget the horizon altogether.
The Muraka at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is the world’s first undersea residence, built across two levels above and below the Indian Ocean. Its main bedroom sits 16 feet beneath sea level beneath a 180-degree curved acrylic dome, creating what feels like a private underwater observatory.
Tropical fish replace passing pedestrians and the ocean becomes your ceiling as marine life moves overhead. Upstairs, the residence returns above the waves with living and dining areas, three bedrooms, an outdoor deck and infinity pool. But it’s downstairs, tucked beneath the Indian Ocean, where this room earns its place on the list.

The room to book: Karen Blixen Suite
At Giraffe Manor, your most memorable view may arrive unannounced – and stick its head through the window.
Set on the top floor of the Historic Manor, the Karen Blixen Suite has a spacious south-facing balcony where guests can feed the giraffes in the early morning. At 113 square metres, it’s also the largest accommodation at Giraffe Manor, with two en-suite bedrooms and a separate lounge with a fireplace.
There are little pieces of history inside, too. A dressing table and wardrobe once belonged to Karen Blixen and came from her original guest bedroom, adding another connection to the writer whose life in Kenya inspired Out of Africa. But it’s that balcony you’ll want to return to – especially when one of Giraffe Manor’s famous residents comes over to say good morning.

The room to book: Dune Pavilion
One red-earth horizon. Two Australian icons.
Longitude 131°’s Dune Pavilion is the only accommodation in Australia where World Heritage-listed Uluṟu and Kata Tjuṯa share the same horizon. The two-bedroom pavilion has separate living and sleeping areas, with the desert landscape stretching beyond them.
Outside, a private deck, daybed, fireplace and plunge pool provide plenty of reasons to linger. This is a view best appreciated slowly: watch the desert colours intensify as the sun moves across the sky, stay outside as darkness reveals the stars, then see the landscape transform again the following morning.
For anyone travelling to Australia’s Red Centre, it turns two bucket-list landmarks into the backdrop to your stay rather than sights reserved solely for an excursion.

The room to book: Deluxe Tented Room
In Botswana, you don’t always need to go looking for the wildlife. Sometimes the better approach is to sit quietly and see what wanders past.
The Deluxe Tented Rooms at Savute Elephant Lodge stand on raised wooden platforms overlooking the dry Savute Channel and the bush of Chobe National Park. Each has a 24-square-metre elevated private deck with a daybed, seating, hammock and dining table, while an outward-facing sofa inside keeps the focus firmly on the wilderness.
The uninterrupted outlook turns downtime between game drives into its own safari experience. Take a coffee onto the deck, keep your binoculars nearby and watch the bush for movement. The lodge specifically designs these outdoor spaces for wildlife viewing – or, when the sun begins to drop, a private dinner surrounded by the sounds of Chobe.

The room to book: One-Bedroom Suite
The privilege at Sanctuary Lodge isn’t about seeing Machu Picchu from your pillow. It’s about staying moments from it.
Set a short walk from the archaeological site, the hotel gives you an enviable base for exploring one of South America’s most extraordinary places. Its One-Bedroom Suite comes with premium mountain views and a private furnished terrace looking across the surrounding Andean landscape.
After hours spent among Machu Picchu’s terraces and stonework, retreat to the suite and let the scenery change pace. Mist moves through the mountains, orchids and forest replace ancient ruins and the terrace offers somewhere quiet to absorb the scale of where you are.
Sometimes the best room with a view isn’t about seeing the landmark itself. It’s about remaining immersed in the landscape long after everyone else has headed home.

A great hotel room gives you somewhere beautiful to sleep. The very best change the way you experience the destination.
At these hotels, the view isn’t an incidental extra. It might determine the architecture of your suite, bring wildlife to your window, place a world-famous landmark on the horizon or even take your bedroom beneath the ocean.
And choosing the right room matters. Two guests staying at the same hotel can have very different experiences depending on the category, floor, orientation and outlook they book.
That’s where we come in. Our Personal Travel Managers can help you choose not only the right hotel, but the room worth travelling for – and build the rest of your luxury holiday around it.

The Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra is renowned for its views of the Taj Mahal. Its Premier Room with Balcony offers uninterrupted Taj Mahal views from both the private balcony and the bed.
Can you see Niagara Falls from your hotel room?

Which hotel has an underwater bedroom in the Maldives?
The Muraka at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is the world’s first undersea residence. Its main bedroom sits 16 feet below sea level beneath a 180-degree curved acrylic dome, allowing guests to watch marine life move overhead.
Where can you stay with a view of Uluṟu?
Longitude 131° offers luxury accommodation overlooking Uluṟu in Australia’s Red Centre. Its Dune Pavilion is particularly remarkable as it is the only accommodation in Australia where Uluṟu and Kata Tjuṯa share the same horizon.
Can giraffes come to your room at Giraffe Manor?
Yes, although visits are always up to the giraffes. The resident Nubian giraffes roam freely and may approach the manor in the morning and evening. The Finch Hatton Suite has giraffe-feeding access from its windows and balcony.
Can you see Machu Picchu from your room at Sanctuary Lodge?
Sanctuary Lodge is located a short walk from the archaeological site, but Belmond describes its One-Bedroom Suite as having premium mountain views rather than a direct view of Machu Picchu. The suite also has a private furnished terrace overlooking the surrounding landscape.
What are the best luxury hotels for wildlife views?
Giraffe Manor in Kenya and Savute Elephant Lodge in Botswana offer two very different wildlife experiences. At Giraffe Manor, resident Nubian giraffes may approach the windows and balconies, while Savute Elephant Lodge’s raised tented rooms overlook the dry Savute Channel and Chobe bush, creating opportunities to watch passing wildlife from your private deck.
Is it worth paying extra for a hotel room with a view?
At landmark and bucket-list destinations, the right room category can add significantly to the experience. A guaranteed view lets you enjoy the destination at quieter moments – at sunrise, after dark or over morning coffee – without having to leave your room, suite or private terrace.
