With its tourism mantra being “the beach is just the beginning”, you’re sure to be immersed in a world of sun, sea and sand that simply can’t be compared. With 365 beaches under its belt, Antigua most certainly spoils you for choice – but never fear! Here’s Winged Boots’ advice on the best stretches of sand that will assist you in making those unforgettable holiday memories that you’ll look back on with a smile.

Looking for a secluded spot?

Enjoy paradise to the fullest at Darkwood Beach. One step on the powder-white sands will have you thinking you’ve stepped straight into a postcard image – yes, it really is that perfect. Darkwood is located between Crab Hill and Johnson’s Point and is remote, quiet and unspoilt. This is undoubtedly the place to go if you want to escape the crowds and sunbathe with a juicy novel in peace. Due to its secluded nature, getting there can be a little tricky if you’re not staying in the area but a taxi will take you straight to the sands. Stick around for sunset if you can – trust us, you won’t regret it.

Antigua is home to incredible cuisine, from international favourites to classic Caribbean comforts. When spending the day in the sunshine, an appetite is bound to be worked up. An abundance of beaches in Antigua have bars and eateries within them, if not close by – our advice? Head to OJ’s Bar and Restaurant for some of the most succulent seafood and delicious grill on the island. Here, everything is made fresh to order so although it may be a bit of a wait, it’s so worth it. This family-run venue is directly on the sands of Crabbe Hill Beach, making it perfect for a late afternoon swim after filling your stomach. The red snapper, grilled lobster and the barbecue ribs certainly won’t disappoint.

Best place for a romantic stroll?

When the sun sets over the gorgeous island, the entire sky is awash with the most stunning pinks, golds and lilacs. There’s truly no better way to enjoy the sunset than with a walk along the shoreline with your significant other, sinking your toes in the sand and watching the waves gently lap against the shore. Our advice is to head to Turners Beach, located near Johnsons Point on the south west coast of Antigua. For the best evening views, walk along the entirety of the beach and trek up the small hill. Here, you can snap Instagram-worthy pictures of the sunset that require no filter whatsoever and enjoy the sights with a loved one by your side.

The Caribbean is the perfect place to start married life with your significant other and Antigua is certainly no exception. The golden sands and the azure waters provide a picturesque backdrop for your wedding fairy tale, and Pineapple Beach Club is definitely the ideal location to exchange your vows. Although no beach in Antigua is private, Pineapple is quiet enough that you won’t be disturbed during the service and your professional pictures won’t be photo-bombed by passers-by.
