Our Expert View:

“If you like the idea of really educating the children in habitats and environmental issues, while also spoiling them with a luxury holiday, this is a great option. The Plantation House deserves a visit.”

ACCOMMODATION

Although there is indeed a massive nod toward the eco-tourism feel, that’s not to say your accommodation is without high-end luxury. The villas all offer private butler service, infinity pools, and all the mod-cons you’d wish for in a luxury hotel. If one of the 16 villas isn’t quite enough – you can go all out and opt for the Banyan Hill Estate experience (or indeed, hire the whole darned island!).

Private Pool Residence

  • 4,305 ft2
  • Ocean View, Jungle View

Coming in three different sizes, these all offer a private terrace, Jacuzzi, dining pavilion and infinity pool. Oh, and exceptional views of course! Some have direct beach access but all can be easily configured for parties of adults and children.

Banyan Hill Estate

  • Harbour View

Overlooking the harbour is a secluded complex which brings together three separate sleeping villas (for up to six adults and three children). Enjoy more open plan living space than you’ll know what to do with, plus a fully serviced kitchen.

Island Rental

If you just don’t like to share, then there is one more option… ask for the whole lot. The Fregate-island live-in staff will cater to your every whim, so you just have to provide them with a guest list and required features and services, and let them do the rest.

      Location

      • Unique and secluded, the Fregate Island is four degrees south of the equator and is one of a gathering of 115 paradise-esque islands. It’s a good hour by ferry from the main airport on Mahé, or 20 minutes by helicopter, but it’s because of that distance from the rest of the world that you’re getting the opportunity to live out your holiday in such preserved and natural environments, surrounded by endangered turtle and the like.

      DINING

Fregate Island has a very unique attitude to its food-service approach. It believes that you should be able to eat whenever, wherever. With that in mind, this is not a place where you’ll feel particularly tied to dining times or to specific restaurant offerings. Locations include a treehouse restaurant, the yacht club, or cruises and picnics. Alternatively – you can be pampered in your own villa.

      LEISURE

Hardly surprisingly, conservation is an issue and an opportunity which crops up on the activity programme for Fregate Island, allowing you to take nature walks into the eco-system or go for a guided educational hike. More traditional leisure activities include using the gym facilities, swimming, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and even PADI certified diving courses. Golf can be sourced for you too.
