High above the plains in the private Grumeti Reserve, this is migration country at its most cinematic. The Mara River lies nearby, and between June and November the surrounding landscape becomes a corridor for wildebeest on the move. Choose from twelve spacious tented suites, each dotted along the hillside for privacy and unobstructed views. The main lodge centres around an infinity pool that seems to spill into the savannah, while the spa offers a slower counterpoint to game drives. Days are spent exploring river crossings and open grasslands and, come evening, you can always return to some creature comforts without losing that sense of place.
