Chobe Game Lodge

Wake to hippos meandering below the trees, then slip straight into the park before the rest of Kasane has properly stirred. Established in 1973, this is the only permanent lodge within Chobe National Park, positioned directly on the river with a 250 metre boardwalk that invites slow, contemplative wildlife watching between drives. The lodge has 40 spacious, river-facing rooms plus four suites, all with private terraces. Interiors lean classic safari, all polished wood, generous lounges and wide river views, while a large swimming pool and spa offer respite from the heat. The safaris are, of course, the star of the show – and they are notably hushed, thanks to a fleet of solar-powered boats and a move towards electric safari vehicles.

Set on the banks of a wildlife-rich river in northern Botswana, this long-established lodge occupies a rare position within one of Africa’s most game-dense national parks. Vast herds of elephant gather along the water’s edge, joined by buffalo, zebra, giraffe and antelope, while lion, leopard and wild dog patrol the surrounding bush. Being based inside the park allows for early departures and unhurried returns, with wildlife viewing possible by vehicle, by boat, or directly from the riverside boardwalk.
