Many people’s first stop is the White House. Standing proud in Pennsylvania Avenue, the area is awash with travellers trying to catch a glimpse of the President and the well-loved pristine lawns. Nearby, there are countless restaurants, museums and historic monuments that are sure to make this day trip worthwhile. Fancy doing something a little different? A Segway tour will have you jetting along the sidewalk seeing all the sights in style.

Close by, millions flock to the National Mall. A plethora of lush greenery and home to the Lincoln Monument, here you can wander through the 9,000 trees before coming face-to-face with the famous Abraham Lincoln memorial. Not enough history for you? The Smithsonian is the largest museum, education and research complex in the world. Exhibitions on a variety of subject matters can be found here, so make sure you check out the schedule in advance.

Divided into four distinct quadrants, every visitor is sure to be catered for. The northwest is home to the central business district, prestigious neighbourhoods and Rock Creek Park. Northeast is home to Union Station so you can get around with ease, as well as the Supreme Court for a stately soak up of history.

The southeast is divided by the Anacostia River, perfect for riverside walks and also boasts the Eastern Market and many remains of several Civil-War forts. Lastly, the southwest otherwise known as Downtown Washington is fantastic for those wanting to see live music at DAR Constitution Hall or shop the high-end labels found on CityCenterDC.

Overall, Washington is a cultural paradise with plenty to do aside from learning about the American legal system. Luxe shopping, beautiful museums and stately architecture are sure tick every city-dweller’s box.
