Soak Up The Culture
  • One of the major worship sites in Yangon, a visit to Botahtaung, with all its quirky charms and peculiarities is a must. Situated on the bank of the Yangon River, the gilded dome is hollow inside allowing visitors to walk through and admire. The road in front of the shrine beckons visitors in with its vibrant abundance of shops selling fruits, flowers and hand crated items. Walk through the main entrance and discover a glistening hall covered in gold leaf, a walkway laced with glass mosaics and a centrepiece glass case in which Buddha’s hair resides.
  • The Ananda temple is one of Bagan’s best known and most stunning creations. One of the first temples to be built in Bagan, the well-preserved master piece is perched just East of the old Bagan city wall. Look out for the golden standing Buddha’s and the visible gilded sikhara- the tower-like spire on top of the pagoda. Don’t forget to take your camera. Also, if your visiting after dark, the Ananda is lit up by spotlights creating a mystical atmosphere.
