Dominican Republic

It is easy to see why the Dominican Republic is one of the top holiday destinations in the Caribbean. Stunning beaches, fantastic golf courses and plenty of lush island to explore will keep you busy for the duration of your holiday. The Dominican Republic certainly delivers. Perfect for those wanting to soak up the culture or couples wanting a luxury holiday with a dash of adventure, everyone is catered for.

Head to the capital of Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the New World, taking in it’s forgotten history. For a day of exploring, wander through the cobblestone streets offering fantastic restaurants such as El Meson De La Vada for French fare or Pat’e Palo European Brasserie for international flavours all served with traditional high-quality customer service with a smile. Some many even offer cigars for an authentic island experience.

If the first word you think of when on holiday is ‘beach’, then you’re in luck, the Dominican Republic is full of them. Punta Cana is easily the most popular with thousands of tourists flocking to enjoy the summer sun and countless watersports that the beach offers. An hour-drive from Punta Cana, La Romana Beach is great for those wanting a quieter affair to take in the tropical vistas, ideal for honeymooners.

Fancy adventuring to the east coast of the island? A half-hour drive from Punta Cana, Scape Park is a great natural theme park for the whole family. Perfect for thrill seekers, there’s caves to explore, a zip wire, and waterfall tours to really get your adrenaline going.

The park is also near Cap Cana Marina. Home to world-famous fishing tournaments, for the best seat in the house, head to one of the dockside restaurants. Ideal for boat and super-yacht spotting, you won’t want to be getting the plane back anytime soon that’s for sure.

WINGED BOOTS WISDOM

Jurassic Park fan? The infamous amber stone with a preserved mosquito inside can be found at the Amber Museum in Puerto Plata. Housing an extensive amber collection, make sure you treat yourself to some of the shop jewellery for a truly unique souvenir to take back home.
