Giraffe Manor is an incredible boutique hotel within a 1930s historic house in the Langata suburb of Nairobi. With a stately façade, elegant interiors, sunny surrounding gardens, terraces and courtyards is easy to see why the property is one of the most instagrammed hotels in the whole world – and that’s before we mention the resident herd of Rothschild giraffes who visit the main house every morning and night.
A stay here includes waking up to breakfast with the giraffes. This is reserved for overnight guests only, of which there are only 12 rooms, so the experience is incredibly intimate and not something you can experience anywhere else in the world. Self-named as ‘the most unforgettable bucket-list breakfast in the world’ – we can certainly see why!
These wild animals reside just across the front lawn in the AFEW Giraffe Centre, a sanctuary committed to breeding this endangered species and educating children about these majestic animals. Because they are wild, the giraffes roam as they please, striding across the manor lawns and peering through the large windows of the house. They are inquisitive creatures and love to interact with visitors - funnily enough they always seem to know when it is mealtime! Seeing their long eyelashes just inches away, feeling the roughness of their long tongues and observing their different personalities will make anyone smile.
Note: When the animals are dining with you it is nutritious dried grass pellets that they’re after, not your breaky!
