We know what you are thinking. What is ‘ultra-luxury’? Well, when it comes to luxury holidays UK it’s about absolute flawlessness: impeccable service, world-class dining, top-of-the-range facilities and amenities, the crème de la crème of accommodation, all of course at no expense spared with no whim overlooked.

The UK is steeped in lush rolling countryside, extensive and pretty coastlines, and superb cities.

Plus there is a profusion of remarkable, five-star hotels up and down the country that offer first-rate spa and golfing opportunities. But where to start? That’s where we can help! Delve into our list below that includes a few of our favourite ideas, destinations and hotels for the ultimate ultra-luxury UK stays and prepare to be inspired for your next trip.

Ultra-luxury spa holidays

The term ‘ultra-luxury’ conjures images of pampering and sheer indulgence, which is what a world-class spa will offer you.

Spa breaks are ideal because they can be taken at any time of year, whether for a long weekend, a day trip or a longer stay. And in fact, a winter spa getaway sounds all the more appealing with all those cosy steam rooms and saunas.

There is no one region in the UK that boasts all the spas, but Surrey comes pretty close, and one of its most illustrious is at Beaverbrook, which is home to one of the finest spas in the UK.

The Coach House Spa is peerless in its interior décor, flaunting a kaleidoscopic paradise of light thanks to the stained-glass ceilings and vibrant ceramic tiles of sapphire, emerald and fuchsia – designed by renowned contemporary artist and architect, Brian Clarke.

The spa itself offers a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, as well as an outdoor pool, a 20-metre indoor pool, six individually designed treatment rooms, a thermal spa with Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and ice fountain, gym, woodland trails, and relaxation area.

Ultra-luxury beach holidays

Being a group of islands, Britain boasts an extensive coastline. She may not have the powder-white sands of the Caribbean or the calm, crystalline waters of the Maldives, but she certainly holds a charm like no other.

Cornwall and Devon are perhaps the most picture-perfect beach destinations in the UK for their broad sands and excellent surf spots, so naturally there are many ultra-luxurious hotels that take full advantage of this, giving the Greek islands and Spanish ‘Costas’ a run for their money.

The Scarlet Hotel, located on the Cornish clifftops, stands out as one of the top choices for a beach holiday and a luxury eco stay in the UK.

This five-star, adult-only hotel provides a sanctuary by the sea with exquisite dining and a first-class spa, perfectly blending stripped-back simplicity within its natural surroundings alongside the modern and deluxe amenities associated with ultra-luxurious hotels.

Its rooms and suites are designed to seamlessly merge with the sand and sea outside and feature a private balcony or field terrace. Check out the Unique Rooms, split over two levels with their own courtyard gardens, monsoon showers and huge baths.

Most impressively is its cosy pod rooms upstairs – the perfect spot to watch the sunset.

Ultra-luxury London holidays

London exudes splendour in many forms, its history, its buildings, and of course as the home of the world’s most famous royal family.

Ultra-luxurious hotels in England’s capital are plentiful, from the penthouses of state-of-the-art skyscrapers to the quietly intimate boutique hotels; independent artsy hotspots to grand, world-renowned institutions frequented by the rich and famous – there is a style of hotel to suite everyone in London.

Hotels such as Claridge's, The Ritz and The Savoy need no introduction, by name alone they evoke images of ultra-luxury: beautiful rooms and suites, impeccable service, out-of-this-world cuisine, and meticulous attention to detail.

Claridge’s is located in the swish Mayfair district and stands out among the glittering crowd for timeless style and sheer glamour since the 1850s. Adored by royalty, movie stars and dignitaries, Claridge’s is a landmark in the city and an art deco icon that has won countless awards for its interior design, its Michelin-starred cuisine, and its flawless service.

All rooms and suites here are either traditionally or art deco-inspired and are some of the most spacious in London, with the lavish Royal Suite featuring opulent touches like chandeliers, an original Gilbert and Sullivan grand piano, soft furnishings laced with silk and gold threads, and hand-painted wallpaper.

Ultra-luxury countryside holidays

The UK is blessed with a beautiful countryside. Although we may complain about the weather, there’s nothing quite like standing in the summer rain surrounded by the lush rolling hills of the Cotswolds, or the Lake District, or the Derbyshire Dales for example.

Many regions of the country play host to the top UK hotels and boast dozens, if not hundreds, of acres of woodland and beautiful estate grounds.

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, a Belmond Hotel in Oxfordshire is considered one of the UK’s premier countryside hotels for its ultra-luxurious manor house accommodation, its two-Michelin-star restaurant – created by world-famous chef, Raymond Blanc – and its immaculate lawns, orchards and vegetable and herb gardens.

32 individually designed rooms and suites draw inspiration from Mr Blanc’s travels and feature sumptuous marble bathrooms and lots of wonderful finishing touches like hand-crafted furniture, opulent textured wallpaper, silk-covered soft furnishings, and Victorian freestanding bathtubs.

Ultra-luxury golfing holidays

Golfing and luxury holidays go hand in hand, with many of the world’s top golf courses located in out-of-this world destinations like verdant Scottish clifftops, lush pine forests, the gorgeous mountain foothills and tropical oceanside settings.

Most often, these courses are linked with internationally renowned five-star hotels that also provide faultless rooms and suites, exquisite dining, and marvellous spas – ideal for when you’re not flaunting on the fairways.

Gleneagles Hotel, situated in Perthshire, Scotland, is branded the ‘Glorious Playground’ and is home to three of the world’s most prestigious golf courses, as well as being previous hosts of the Ryder Cup and the Solheim Cup.

With 850 acres of estate to explore there is a wealth of wonderful outdoor pursuits on offer such as tennis, shooting, fishing, horse riding, off-road driving, and cycling, plus a lot of golf to play.

Gleneagles’ country house-style rooms and suites are both warm and inviting while exuding total luxury in each individually inspired space.

Also, the gorgeous award-winning spa provides a welcome haven for a little R&R, while the hotel proves to be a worldwide culinary destination with several superb restaurants including The Strathearn, serving classic French-Scottish combinations, and the two-Michelin-starred Andrew Fairlie, considered to be one of the finest restaurants in Europe.
