Gentle water sports such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing make for a relaxing time in the water, but if you’re after something to really get that adrenaline going then try wakeboarding, jet-skiing, water-skiing, donut rides and banana boat rides, or rent some high-tech kit such as jetpacks or flyboards. Land-based activities

If dry land appeals more then you should definitely have a go on the newly built Padel Court, an increasingly popular sport now played in over 60 countries that is similar to tennis and very easy to learn for all ages.

The hotel’s Fitness Centre is kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment catering to both strength and cardio regimens, with a team of wellness experts on hand for personal training sessions. The Movement Studio offers classes for yoga, dance and a fitness training bootcamp, plus the Little Nomads Martial Arts Academy for the kids.

Eating anywhere in Dubai is a gastronomic delight and the Mandarin Oriental does not disappoint on this front with four fine dining options, each as distinctive and exciting as the next. Sublimotion is an eclectic offering that will be like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Based on a unique, multi-sensory concept where just 12 diners dive into a world of ‘molecular gastronomy and haute cuisine’, with 360-degree screens projecting a high-tech show while guests dine.

Tasca by José Avillez is a contemporary restaurant located on the sixth floor of the hotel, serving characterful, authentic Portuguese fare and home of the largest selection of Portuguese wines in the country. Don’t miss the delicious Mandarin Oriental Dubai brunch at Tasca, a tasting menu combining the freshest flavours and most succulent seafood you can think of.

Japanese steakhouse Netsu is headed up by Mandarin Oriental Dubai executive chef Ross Shonhan, and exhibits the wonderful, traditional cooking technique Warayaki – straw fire cooking – and includes sushi and sashimi plates along with many other complex and delectable Japanese dishes.

Beluga is the wonderfully named, lavishly decorated caviar eatery that upholds its position as the only dedicated caviar restaurant in Dubai, offering impeccable service and dazzling food.

Alongside these amazing fine dining establishments are The Bay, a beachside brasserie for casual all-day Mediterranean-style fare, the casual Sun Vibes pool bar, and Noor Lounge, located in the lobby, which offers up lovely afternoon teas and refreshing drinks and coffees throughout the day and into the balmy evenings. The Mandarin Cake Shop serves a selection of eat-in or takeaway cakes that quite honestly look too good to eat, possibly belonging in an art gallery for us to marvel at when we have a sweet craving. Is the Mandarin Oriental Dubai family friendly?

Yes there is plenty on offer for children here. The Little Nomads Kids’ Club is open for youngsters aged 3-10 and offers a variety of entertainment including their very own kids’ swimming pool, toys, games and art supplies. Under fours eat for free in and each restaurant offers a dedicated children’s menu. As well as the previously mentioned Little Nomads Martial Arts Academy there is also the Little Nomads Lifeguard Training programme, both for ages 5-16.

Which is the best suite in the hotel?

The Royal Penthouse is 850sqm and split over two levels, offering an outstanding space with bedroom overlooking the sea, rooftop terrace with pool and fire pit, private gym, steam rooms, multiple balconies, a huge living room and dining room, bar and study, all accessed via a private lift. Not bad, is it?

How do we get to the hotel from the airport?

After your flight, which is approximately seven hours from London, guests will have a 20-minute car transfer from Dubai International Airport.
