Bali is full to the brim with sustainability-driven hotels, whether it’s a luxury eco-lodge or a five-star resort. Thankfully, the hospitality industry is waking up to the responsibility of promoting eco-conscious travel wherever possible, so it’s also down to us to choose from the hotels that are making the biggest waves in sustainable tourism.

Even some of the world’s biggest hotel brands are making substantial changes to the ways they operate and serve their thousands of luxury-seeking guests every year. Whether it’s combatting single-use plastic or investing in local conservation projects, change is coming, but that doesn’t mean the usual standards dwindles. A luxury Bali eco-stay combines the joys of five-star grandeur with all sorts of educational eco-tourism experiences that guide you towards making better choices as a traveller.

Who’s ready to take a closer look at Bali’s most luxurious sustainable hotels?

Soori Bali

Soori Bali is first on our list of resorts that are great for a luxury eco-stay in Bali. Boasting modern architecture that perfectly complements its natural surroundings, this is a place that has been designed with meticulous detail – and the finished results pay off. You’ll love lapping up the luxury of your private villa and the onsite wellness spa.

But despite its splendour, Soori Bali also has a big focus on sustainability. It doesn’t just look pretty, the resort’s entire infrastructure was built with eco-friendly initiatives in mind, from its plumbing system to the angles and directions in which the buildings were designed. In fact, Soori Bali is certified by the EC3 Global EarthCheck Standard for Building, Planning and Design

Here are some of the eco-friendly steps the resort has taken:

  • The buildings are heated and cooled using the natural methods of indigenous volcanic rock and vegetation.
  • Fitted with carefully positioned low-mercury lighting to minimise energy consumption.
  • Uses water-efficient appliances in bathrooms, kitchens, and resort facilities.
  • Works closely with neighbouring farmers and built designated foot access to minimise disruption to rice paddies.

The most luxury sustainable hotels in Bali FAQs

Why is sustainable tourism so important?
Tourism and environmental sustainability don’t exactly go hand in hand. A destination gaining popularity is a double-edged sword, often the more tourists that visit a place like Bali for its natural beauty, the more damage is caused to its precious environment, whether it’s litter-scattered beaches or disappearing coral worsened by snorkelers touching the species or even tearing bits off to take home. That’s an absolute no-no!

Thankfully, so many of Bali’s best five-star hotels have made sustainability part of their DNA. So, it’s our responsibility as travellers to do our research around what hotels are taking responsibility too.

What can you do to travel responsibly?
Some of the most important things you can do as a responsible traveller include:

  • Opting for the most eco-friendly accommodation
  • Minimise your use of natural resources and never leave litter behind.
  • Never disturb fauna and flora when hiking, swimming, cycling, etc.
  • Take eco-friendly transportation wherever possible.

Luxury Bali holidays are typically extravagant and lavish, but they can also be incredible educational experiences that teach you all about Bali’s natural wonders and the people that call the island home. That’s why we always recommend opting for the five-star resorts and Bali's luxury eco-lodges that put sustainability at the forefront.
