The most Instagrammable places in Singapore

  • Published 04 May 2018

One of Asia’s most popular countries, Singapore is an island city-state that has a wealth of picture-perfect landmarks. From the iconic area of Marina Bay Sands to the traditional buildings of CHIJMES, the old really meets the new here in a way that makes for wonderful photographs. Culture is rich here with plenty of mosques, historic monuments and must-see landmarks to work your way through. We’ve only just scratched the surface when it comes to the places that will secure that double tap, will you find any more?

Gardens by the Bay

Get back to nature in the heart of the city by taking a trip to Gardens by the Bay. Comprising three waterfront gardens and spanning 250 acres, there is plenty to see and do. The Supertree Grove is easily one of the most iconic attractions. Coming alive at night these tree-like vertical gardens put on quite a light and sound show that is a real sight to behold. However, visiting in the day is just as fantastic purely for the panoramic views of Singapore. Connected by walkways and canopies, you’re able to go from one tree to the next with ease. Cloud Forest is another must when heading to the gardens. Built with inspirations of grand mountains you’ll be surrounded by lush vegetation and rare plants. The piece de resistance? Getting to take a picture in front of the 100-foot waterfall. It simply can’t be beaten.

The historic buildings of CHIJMES can be found in the Downtown Core, Singapore’s central business district. Originally known as a Catholic convent it is now a national monument. The gothic exteriors make an impact. A stark contrast to the modern skyscraper surroundings this complex stands true to its history. The area is also home to a bustling food scene, with many traditional restaurants adorning the streets that make for quite the unforgettable meal. Gyu-Kaku is one of the most popular with Japanese barbeque fare on the menu. Tender cuts of meat, salads and platters are all available to tuck into and the gorgeous backdrops of the gothic cathedral and buildings are sure to add an extra special vibe to proceedings.

911 windows of vibrant colours has made the MICA building one of the most Instagram-worthy sights in the whole of Singapore. While it was first owned by the police it is now a government building that has been restored extensively over the years, showcasing both the old and the new. Inside there are a few art galleries that highlight mainly Asian artworks and as it’s free of charge, there really is no reason not to swing by.

Buddha Tooth Relic

Chinatown in Singapore offers more than world-class cuisine. Being home to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple it’s also got some magnificent architecture. Built in 2007 the venue is home to the left canine tooth of Buddha which was previously recovered from his funeral pyre in Kushinagar. That’s not all though as there are an array of other artefacts on the third floor that walk you through the wonders of the Buddhist religion to its fullest. The Emiment Sangha Museum can also be found here. This is where various film screenings and talks happen throughout the year so if you’re looking to either find out more about the religion or become inspired, this temple is brilliant.
