  • Published 04 April 2018

Los Angeles is a destination bursting with Instagram hotspots that will liven up any social media feed in an instant. From Malibu and West Hollywood to Beverly Hills, there are plenty of hidden gems hiding around every palm tree and car stuck in traffic. Coffee bars, art museums and national landmarks are just waiting to be discovered… care to join?

Hollywood Walk of Fame

The stars that adorn the pavement of the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a definite Instagram snap if we ever saw one. A-listers such as Mariah Carey, Daniel Radcliffe and most recently RuPaul have all been honoured here. With more than 2,600 stars to walk along, you may be spending some time trying to find your favourite celeb. The acclaimed sidewalk takes up 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street, so if you’re wanting to explore the streets of LA, this is a great place to start. There are various walking tours which are perfect for all, and there are also countless gift shops, restaurants and even tattoo parlours nearby, so you can make a real day of it.

One of the most famous and recognisable landmarks, the Hollywood Sign is a must when you’re in LA. Originally built in 1923 for real estate, the monument signifies the rich and famous with many tourists coming from every corner of the globe just to catch a glimpse. While you can no longer hike up to the sign itself, there are plenty of spots to relish the views. The Griffith Observatory is one of the most popular ways to do so, and another Instagram moment as the building itself is equally as beautiful. To really see this sight in style, turn the luxury dial up a notch with a driving tour in a Ferrari. This 30-minute extravaganza will see you zoom through some of LA’s most well-known landmarks including the Hollywood Sign, complete with a Go-Pro video so you can relive the experience time and time again.

Paul Smith’s Pink Wall

You won’t have any trouble finding our next pick, as the Paul Smith’s Pink Wall is a stunning shade of fuchsia. Found in the parking lot of the fashion company’s flagship store on Melrose Avenue, the venue has now become a modern landmark with many fashion bloggers and Instagram addicts posing for a picture or two. Due to the increase in photo-takers coming to the wall, it now has its own security guard to prevent fatalities between cars and the public. It has become so popular that in 2017 Paul Smith teamed up with the social media giant Instagram. In celebration of Pride the typical salmon colour was changed to vibrant rainbow stripes showcasing their support for the LGBTQ community.

The Los Angeles Country Museum of Art (LACMA) is known as the largest art museum in the western area of the United States. You’ll be pulling out your camera even before you enter the building as the entry plaza is home to an exhibit called Urban Light. Created by Chris Burden the artwork sees more than 200 cast-iron street lamps that have been lovingly restored from times gone by. No matter what your angle it’s guaranteed to be a good one, and since being installed in 2008 it’s proven to be quite a crowd pleaser. Inside there are plenty of exhibitions to spice up the instagrid such as Material Play by Zheng Chongbin which embraces contemporary art and traditional Chinese ink painting beautifully. Another must is the Miracle Mile by Robert Irwin. Showcasing the link between perception and the experience of art, the pieces are vibrant and colourful and are certain to get the likes rolling in.

Little Damage Ice Cream

Going well beyond the typical flavours of vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, Little Damage is an ice cream shop with a unique difference. Every colour from red, blue and their signature black can be chosen so you can literally match your treat to your outfit. The reason for the dark hues? Activated charcoal. The flavours change seasonally, with one option always being vegan, and the ingredients used are all local, supplied by organic dairy farmers. There’s also a photo booth just in case your phone runs out of battery, or your excitement levels are so high you forget to snap some pics.

One of LA’s most well-loved and popular stretches of sand, Venice Beach is a must-snap for any avid sun worshipper. Muscle Beach outdoor gym can also be found here if you fancy pumping some iron accompanied by the Californian breeze, and let’s not forget the array of independent shops, boutiques and coffee bars to get acquainted with. There are also various street performers and colourful murals adding even more vibrancy to proceedings. For the quintessential LA experience we recommend renting a bike and riding down the promenade, taking in the gorgeous scenery as you go.

Alfred Coffee

No doubt you’ve seen the ‘But First, Coffee’ sign during an Instagram scroll and now it’s time to head to the birthplace of the signature phrase; Alfred Coffee. With multiple locations across California and two in Tokyo, the coffee chain has been going down a storm on social media with their neon signage and 90s-inspired decor. On the menu there’s a wide range of java available as well as snacks should you be feeling peckish. If you’re more of a tea drinker make sure to head to Alfred Tea Room, the sister to Alfred Coffee, in West Hollywood. Choose from a range of different teas including matcha, oolong and chai and tickle yourself pink as you take a seat in the fuchsia-themed café.
