The flagship airline of Singapore, Singapore Airlines, has been voted as the World’s Best Airline 2018 by travellers from across the globe in the 2018 World Airline Awards. Though to be the Oscars of the aviation industry, it’s quite an accolade to have with 335 airlines featured in the survey results and previous winners including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Cathay Pacific.

“Singapore Airlines is honoured to be named ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the Skytrax awards, and I dedicate it to the 26,000 SIA Group employees who focus every day on delivering the world’s best travel experience"

Commissioned by London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax, more than 20-million travellers voted in this years’ awards which Singapore Airlines take the top spot. In the 18 years that the World Airline Awards has been celebrated, Singapore Airlines have now won the accolade four times however its latest win was the first time in 10-years.

Singapore Airlines has been known as one of the top carrier airlines in the industry. With perks including hot towels, high quality food and the function of your seat able to become a fold-out bed, your holiday starts as soon as you get on the plane. The brand has a high focus on hospitality too with ‘The Singapore Girl’ being one of its most iconic advertising campaigns.

In a statement on the Singapore Airlines website SIA CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong, who accepted the award during a gala ceremony at the Langham Hotel in London, says the win was due to the hard-working staff. “Singapore Airlines is honoured to be named ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the Skytrax awards, and I dedicate it to the 26,000 SIA Group employees who focus every day on delivering the world’s best travel experience to our customers. The recognition will further motivate us to improve upon the three main pillars of our brand promise – product leadership, service excellence and network connectivity – to ensure we retain our competitive advantage and continue to meet and exceed customer expectations.”

The same statement also saw Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted congratulate the airline. “A key wow factor for customers is consistency and this proved to be a real asset for Singapore Airlines who scored highly across both product and service. I am sure Singapore Airlines will also take great pride in winning the World’s Best First Class award, less than one year after it introduced its new first-class suites.”

It could well be these first-class suites, found on the Airbus A380 crafts, that have continued to have contributed to ensuring Singapore Airlines stays at the forefront of the industry. The new suites were an industry first. The leather chairs swivel and adjust to give you the best view out of your window and for times when you want to sleep there’s even a small double bed to catch some shut eye on. Bose noise-cancelling headphones, a touchscreen table and electronic window blinds also come as standard with two suites being having an additional bonus of being adjoining which makes them ideal for families and larger groups.

Narrowly missing out on this years’ top spot were various airlines such as Qatar, Emirates and Thai Airways with China Southern Airlines winning the World’s Most Improved Airline and Qatar Airways named as the World’s Best Business Class.
