Trinidad and Tobago Carnival

When: February 16-17, 2026

Trinidad and Tobago Carnival is the Caribbean’s largest carnival celebration and is widely known as “The Greatest Show on Earth.” The season begins well before the main parade days, with cornerstone events such as Panorama, the national steelband competition; Calypso and Soca Monarch finals; and the Kings and Queens of the Bands, which showcase the most striking and intricate costumes of the year.

J’ouvert, held in the early hours of Carnival Monday, marks the beginning of two intense days of celebration. Participants take to the streets before sunrise covered in mud, paint, oil or cocoa, moving behind steelbands or music trucks in an uninhibited expression of freedom that stretches back generations.

Carnival Monday features lighter, personalised attire known as 'Monday Wear', while Carnival Tuesday delivers the full Parade of the Bands, where masqueraders pass through the city’s judging points in vibrant, meticulously crafted costumes. Set to soca and steelpan, it forms the climactic expression of Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural identity.

Aruba Carnival

When: January to February 2026 (Grand Parade: February 22)

Aruba’s Carnival is the island’s most anticipated event of the year, an exuberant season of pageantry, music and island-wide celebration. The build-up begins weeks in advance, with colourful street parties, queen elections, and dazzling costume competitions lighting up the nights. But it’s the Grand Parade through Oranjestad that steals the show, when thousands of masqueraders, dance troupes and live bands take over the capital’s streets in a sea of sequins, feathers and high-octane Caribbean rhythms.

With festivities drawing visitors from across the globe, securing your place early is essential. For a beachfront base that pairs carnival access with elegant downtime, The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba delivers effortless luxury. Set along the soft sands of Palm Beach, the resort offers expansive ocean-view suites, a serene spa, and world-class dining. It’s an ideal retreat when you want to switch gears from the pulsing energy of the parades to restorative calm and golden sunsets.

Spicemas, Grenada

When: August 1-11, 2026 (Carnival Monday and Tuesday: August 10–11)

Spicemas, Grenada’s premier carnival, is a dazzling celebration of the island’s cultural heritage and contemporary spirit. The festivities ignite with the high-energy Soca Monarch and Panorama competitions, but it’s J’ouvert on Carnival Monday that truly sets the tone as thousands of revellers flood the streets before dawn, drenched in black oil, paint or chocolate, moving to the hypnotic rhythms of Jab Jab music. On Tuesday, the Parade of the Bands transforms the streets of St George’s into a kaleidoscope of costume and creativity, bringing the season to a vibrant, joyful close.

With flights and accommodations often booked months in advance, early booking is crucial. For a refined base within easy reach of the action, Grand Anse Beach offers the perfect blend of accessibility and serenity. Just minutes from the parade route, Silversands Grenada is a contemporary sanctuary featuring sleek suites, a showstopping infinity pool, and the kind of laid-back luxury that provides a welcome counterpoint to carnival’s electric energy. As the filming location for The Fortune Hotel, it’s also made its own mark in pop culture.

Crop Over Festival, Barbados

When: July 3-August 4, 2026 (Grand Kadooment: August 3)

What began as a sugarcane harvest celebration has evolved into Barbados’ most iconic cultural festival. Crop Over now spans a month of music, visual art, culinary showcases and costumed pageantry, culminating in Grand Kadooment – a full-day masquerade parade through Bridgetown, where bands of revellers dance behind music trucks to infectious soca beats under the Caribbean sun.

The island’s west and south coasts offer prime access to the festivities, with early starts and full-throttle days making proximity essential. For a luxury base with sea views and impeccable service, Sandy Lane on the island’s platinum coast is one of the most sought-after hotels in the region and offers a sophisticated spot to lay your head after a few rum punches.

Parade through Nassau

Bahamas Carnival

When: June 3-7, 2026

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in one of the freshest and most vibrant celebrations in the Caribbean, head to Bahamas Carnival in Nassau, which has rapidly gained traction as a must‑visit event. It blends the island’s own masquerade traditions with high‑energy music, costumed bands and a dramatic road march.

Expect a weekend of rich rhythm, where soca, dancehall and local 'rake‑and‑scrape' beats a traditional Bahamian music genre characterised by the rhythmic and percussive sounds of a hand saw ("raking") and a goatskin drum ("scraping") set the tone. The parade of bands, complete with flamboyant feathers and sequins, sweeps through Nassau in early June for 2026.

For a seriously stylish base just steps from the action, consider staying at Rosewood Baha Mar on Cable Beach, a resort showcasing spacious rooms, private balconies and a restful elegance that pairs beautifully with the buzzing energy of carnival time.

Jamaica Carnival

When: April 8-14, 2026

Kingston transforms with colour and rhythm during this lively celebration of soca, dancehall and costume bands. In the lead‑up week there are fetes, beach parties and band launches; the Road March is the vibrant climax, when masqueraders and music trucks flood through the city. Stay a little beyond the main parade day to savour Jamaica’s heritage and energy in a more relaxed rhythm.

Nestled on a private 200‑metre stretch of beach in Ocho Rios, Jamaica Inn is a boutique resort that blends old‑world elegance with modern comfort. With each cottage or bungalow offering sea or garden views, plus an ocean‑facing spa and candle‑lit dinners under the stars, it makes for a relaxed escape just minutes from the action.

Carriacou Carnival, Grenada

When: February 11-17, 2026

Carriacou Carnival, known locally as Kayak Mas, is one of the Caribbean’s most culturally rich and traditional pre-Lenten celebrations. Held on Grenada’s sister isle, the festivities are a vibrant blend of African and European heritage, most vividly expressed through Shakespeare Mas. This captivating tradition sees costumed participants deliver lines from Shakespeare’s plays in spirited, theatrical combat on the streets. The celebration also features Jab Jab revellers, colourful costume bands, and the infectious rhythms of J’ouvert, where early-morning processions come alive with drumming and dance.

With its small-island setting, Kayak Mas has a warm, close-knit atmosphere. The heart of the action lies in Hillsborough and spills into surrounding villages, where music, performance, and homecooked local dishes create a festival that feels both communal and deeply rooted in tradition. Steeped in history and island pride, Carriacou Carnival is one of the region’s most authentic and unforgettable cultural experiences.
