Middle East airline giant Emirates is easily the biggest player in the UAE airline industry. Before the pandemic, the Dubai-based flag carrier was flying more than 50 million passengers a year to 157 global destinations. Emirates’ ultra-chic home city remains one of the world’s most popular destinations; and now we have some excellent news for flyers between Dubai and the UK. Economy is about to get a whole lot more luxurious, thanks to the airline expanding its premium economy class to all London flights.

A service “to rival many airlines’ business offering”, says Emirates, is being extended to the carrier’s Airbus A380 flights between London and Dubai from 1st August 2022. Paris and Sydney will be similarly served, with Christchurch in New Zealand following suit towards the end of the year. But what can premium economy passengers expect? Superior comfort for a start; with seats that boast generous legroom, along with the latest in-flight-entertainment technology.

Sink into sumptuous 19.5 inch-wide leather seats in the new cabins, which recline by eight inches. While the latter guarantees a good rest; you will never be bored either, with a plethora of entertainment options on offer. Each premium economy seat features a 13.3-inch screen and 5,000 channels of TV, movies, music and more.

Emirates began rolling out the cabin upgrades last year, with premium economy positioned at the front of the main deck on its A380s. The class’s 2-4-2 seat arrangement across 56 seats has been introduced to 6 of the double-decker aircraft, with 67 more to follow and 53 Boeing 777s later this year. The latter will see 24 seats in the new class, between business and economy.

Emirates president Sir Tim Clark said “customers trading up from economy will be getting excellent value. Since we first introduced our premium economy seats in January 2021, the positive response and demand has been tremendous.” Clark added “At the end of the programme, Emirates will have 126 aircraft fitted out with premium economy cabins, as well as our latest interiors across other cabins. It is a major investment to ensure our customers continue to have the best experience in the sky.”
