But if you’re at a total loss as to where to book, let us recommend the Balearic Islands. This Spanish archipelago off the Eastern coast of Mainland Spain offers Mediterranean views, a wealth of fun activities and gastronomic excellence that is sure to satisfy even the fussiest of palates. Still not convinced? We’ve got six more great reasons that are sure to have you enquiring about your next Balearic business trip quicker than you can say ‘tapas’.

Working nine to five (am)

In Ibiza it’s the annual Christmas party every night of the week. Forget after work drinks on a Friday as Ibiza’s club world is going to turn post-boardroom socials up a gear… and your employees are going to love you for it. This Balearic isle is known for its heart-pumping, after-dark entertainment, so you couldn’t travel to the European party Mecca without enjoying at least one evening at Amnesia or Ushuaia Beach Club. These big players in the party scene are a highlight of most visitors’ getaway and are sure to be a talking point over the early-morning tea run once you’re back in the office.

Getting around Ibiza is simple and if you want to be in the heart of the action you’re spoilt for choice. Ibiza Town offers bars, restaurants, an enchanting old town and the famous super-club Pacha. On the other hand, San Antonio on the west coast is where you can discover the famous sunset strip, a range of bars and smaller clubs as well as gorgeous beaches lapped by the topaz waves of the Mediterranean Sea. Alternatively, Playa d’en Bossa is where you’ll find the island’s longest beach and a pulsing party every night. What’s more, Ibiza is only a two-and-a-half-hour flight from London, a popular fare that is serviced by most of the major airlines making it ideal for an affordable long weekend… just make sure you’ve got the coffee ready first thing Tuesday morning.

One for the health gurus in your company, The Balearics isn’t shy when it comes to its wellness offerings. From sumptuous spas to hidden health retreats and yoga in between, this collection of Spanish islands delivers when it comes to holistic therapies and natural ways to relax the mind, body and soul. A great way to de-stress after another successful year or the launch of an exciting new project, a short-haul wellness getaway could be just what the doctor ordered for your staff to enable them to escape and recharge their batteries, ready for another busy few months.

Plus, you can’t really go wrong with which Balearic island you choose. Surprisingly, Ibiza has a vast range of retreats that offer everything from yoga for all abilities to fitness boot camps that are not for the faint-hearted. Alternatively, head to one of the tranquil hotel spas in Menorca or Mallorca where a full-body massage can be complemented by a sunrise yoga session on the beach and evening pilates by the pool. Pepper this with swimming a few laps in the twinkling topaz water, a meditation session while the sun sets and a few days of fulfilling organic food and your teams’ chakras will be balanced again in no time. Om… where do we sign up?

A gastronomic affair

Who doesn’t enjoy a break away from the office filled with great food and even better wine? This is precisely why Menorca is a great choice for incentive travel. Home to multiple wineries, here the wine is a deep shade of cherry, fragranced with a bouquet of red fruits and spices, and tastes like it contains little drops of heaven. Typical Menorcan wine is made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, however the region also offers bottles of white too, but only from Chardonnay and Malvasia grapes.

Bodegas Binifadet is one of the most popular wineries and offers a tour of the vineyard before a delicious tasting. A great day trip, this experience allows you to try a wealth of different wines and then you have the option to purchase some to take home, too. Alternatively, enjoy the region’s greatest wines at one of the island’s restaurants. Traditional Spanish and Mediterranean influences are in abundance with the food choices, however world food can also be easily found with Western classics popular on many menus. Of course, wash every mouthful down with a sip of the full-bodied good stuff and the foodies and wine connoisseurs in your business are bound to have a good time.

Incentive travel is all about rewarding your staff, and nothing says ‘we value your hard work’ more than a few nights in a top-notch hotel. We’re talking five-stars of utter indulgence, and yes, you’ve guessed it, The Balearics has a catalogue of deluxe hotels for you to take your pick from. Remember that luxury comes in all shapes and sizes, but for a truly lavish experience how about Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa? Here, every guest is treated like a VIP and its mountainside location and comfortable accommodation options provide the cherry on top of what is set to be a picture-perfect stay.

Alternatively, how about a trip to Ibiza’s hottest new resort, Seven Pines? Open from May 2018, this excellent choice boasts 180 suites that are decked out with modern, neutral interiors and offer views to die for. Similarly, Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay offers a balance of calming Mediterranean views and delectable cuisine with glamorous cocktails and multiple pamper stations, this stylish take on Ibiza’s luxe hotel scene never disappoints.

The path to success

A good incentive trip is peppered with activities that appeal to a variety of interests, and Mallorca is bursting with attractions to keep your party occupied. From exploring the island’s historic cathedral in the capital Palma, to discovering Coves dels Hams, a series of grottos complete with a botanical garden, lake and colourful light and music displays, boredom certainly isn’t on the agenda here. Another main draw is the island’s cycling routes. Known throughout the world to keen riders as one of the best places to cycle in Europe, this Spanish isle certainly has something for every ability.

Thanks to its varied terrain, hill and mountainous trails as well as smooth roads and year-round sunshine, Mallorca has positioned itself as a cycling superpower so it would be a sin to visit this part of the world without donning your helmet at least once during your stay. One of the most popular routes – and rumoured favourite of Sir Bradley Wiggins – is Cape de Formentor that’s located in The Formentor Peninsula a top-spot-regular on the beautiful areas of Spain lists. This 19km stretch of road winds over undulating terrain and offers stunning views of the Med along the majority of the route. The finish line comes in the form of a lighthouse that boasts unobstructed vistas across Pollensa Bay to the Alcudia Peninsula and on a clear day you can even see across to neighbouring island Menorca. Trust us, it’s worth the hours’ cycle just for this scene and your employees are bound to enjoy a little team bonding, too.

Let’s face facts, the main concern when it comes to organising incentive travel is budget. Of course, you want your staff to have a great trip, but budget constraints put limitations on this. The Balearics’ main pull is its short flight time that is serviced by all major airlines, including the purse-friendly Ryanair and EasyJet. Affordable and quick to get to and from, this makes this collection of Spanish isles perfect for a weekend getaway where jetlag is just an excuse to get away from Susan in Accounts.

What’s more, Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca are all relatively small and all boast excellent hotels within close proximity to each island’s main airport ensuring transfers are headache-free – your trip can pretty much get underway from the moment your plane lands on the tarmac. Couple this with year-round sunshine, silky soft sand beaches and entertainment for all and you’ll understand how The Balearics has positioned itself as a destination that provides a successful incentive getaway every time.
