Best for: Summer all year round

Hello paradise! Finolhu lies in the Baa Atoll, one of 26 natural atolls in the Indian Ocean and thanks to its fantastic geographical location it claims to enjoy summer all year round. Surrounded by reefs, submerged cliffs and ‘thilas’ – small round underwater hills – the calm waters provide the ideal habitat for an estimated 1200 reef species. It’s obvious why the Baa Atoll has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. But what isn’t so clear is that due to its location, the island benefits from a tropical climate. The average temperate is 29 degrees while the waters stay warm at 24 degrees all year round. So don’t forget to pack your SPF or your swimwear.

Finolhu has bundles of personality – where else can you sleep under the stars in a bubble tent mere steps from the ocean? And this individuality stretches to its dining options. With four restaurants to choose from your biggest dilemma on this trip is where to visit first. We recommend a gourmet lunch at Crab Shack followed by bubbles at the Beach Club and then dinner at Asian fine dining restaurant Kanusan. Be sure to nab a spot on the veranda to watch the sun set and then under the twinkling sky you can stare at the stars reflecting off the still water.

Best for: Large families

Also within the tranquil Baa Atoll is Vakkaru Maldives, a secluded reef island blessed with timeless ocean views, powder-soft sandy beach and an expansive collection of villas and residences. The 113 accommodation options include Beach Villa with Plunge Pool, Over Water Pool Villa and Over Water Family Pool Villa to name just a few of the deluxe options. Each offers fresh white linens, a calming colour palette and immense privacy. However, for the ultimate accommodation choice, be sure to check-in to one of the residences. Designed to accommodate a variety of family sizes up to eight adults or four adults and four children, expect space by the bucket load and every home comfort you could possibly desire. Vakkaru’s all-inclusive option is similar to many other resorts. It encompasses all meals and beverages throughout your stay across the five restaurants, two bars and famous wine cellar… so be sure to pack your appetite.

Best for: Adults-Only

Komandoo Maldives is where adults can truly unwind. Honeymooning couples looking for an all-inclusive slice of paradise, parents enjoying some much-needed time away from the little ones… we’re looking at you! All guests at Komandoo Maldives must be strictly over-18, so you can rest assured that your holiday will be without cries of “mum” and “dad!”. Your private villa is either located on the island’s private beach or perched on stilts above the turquoise lagoon and many options offer the benefit of a personal Jacuzzi. For the foodies among you, there are two restaurants, one á la carte and one buffet-style, as well as two scenic bars for you to indulge in. This island resort is also well placed for waterbabies; there are more than 50 dive sites nearby that are awaiting you to explore, so don your fins and delve into the deep.
