Chiang Rai In A Nutshell

Soak Up The Culture

  • A trip to Wat Rong Khun is a must when visiting Chiang Rai. The all-white temples are stunning underneath the beaming sunshine, making the statues even more visually impressive. This is an alternative attraction to the other sacred sites in Thailand as you can spot sculptures of pop culture icons such as Michael Jackson and Hello Kitty. Wat Rong Khun can become extremely busy due to its rare statues so be sure to visit as early as possible.

  • What’s a holiday to Chiang Rai without going to a traditional Thai market? The Chiang Rai Night Bazaar is brilliant for bargain hunting, food and entertainment without vendors being overly pushy for sales.

After Dark Destinations

  • Slightly off the beaten track, guests can head to The C Word Bar for delicious beverages throughout the day and night. Serving coffee, paninis and pastries from morning to afternoon, The C Word Bar is transformed into a cocktail bar at night, serving flavourful concoctions that are to die for.

  • Head into the heart of the city to see the Chiang Rai Clock Tower that comes to life in the evening. Don’t miss out on the light and sound display while you’re in the city, lasting around 10 minutes and commencing on the hours of 7pm, 8pm and 9pm.

Tastes To Try

  • Cabbages and Condoms – yes, really – is Chiang Rai’s delicious restaurant that’s more than just great Thai food. The unique name operates as a social enterprise to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and encourages the use of contraception in rural Thailand. Innovative décor assists the extensive menu, offering tasty dishes such as shrimp pad Thai, New Zealand lamb in oyster sauce and banana split for dessert.

  • Rumbling stomachs will be satisfied at Hungry Wolf’s, perfect for a change of cuisine. Serving Western options including the likes of pizza, ribs and burgers, this is a family-friendly restaurant that will leave a smile on the faces of every diner.
