Gran Canaria is a land of pristine-white sands, towering cliffs and an army of night clubs and bars that caters to all traveller types. Whether you’re after a luxury holiday with the kids, other half or friends you’re sure to have an action-packed stay here.
Many hotels can be found directly on the beach, or at least near to one. Décor in all has obvious touches of Spanish architecture along with a merge of modern and traditional interiors. All boast jaw-dropping swimming pools that are just waiting to be dived into, as well as restful spas should you need a facial or massage for the ultimate in TLC.
Holiday makers come to Gran Canaria for the stretches of golden sands that have made the area so iconic. With more than 80 beaches to choose from, you’re sure to find your favourite. Dive, surf or simply sunbathe as you sip a mojito. Maspalomas Beach is one that you simply must go to thanks to the dunes that will make the perfect Instagram picture, no filter needed.
For something a little wilder, there are many theme parks and national parks to roam through. With Holiday World and Aqualand top choices for those wanting a few thrills, there are also a multitude of nature reserves where you can admire orangutans, meerkats and much more.
As well as beaches and wonderful scenery, Gran Canaria is well-known for its abundance of clubs and bars especially in the capital of Las Palmas and Maspalomas. See a drag show at Ricky’s Cabaret Bar or head to The Eiffel Bar for a sophisticated tipple under the stars. Food-wise, restaurants and eateries can be found everywhere you look. Catering for all taste buds, you’re sure to find something to tuck into here. Seafood is a popular option that keeps visitors coming back for more, and no doubt the mojo sauce delicacy found throughout will have you singing like a canary.
Make sure to check out if there are any carnivals or festivals happening throughout your stay, as it seems that every week something is being celebrated. Whether its Gay Pride in Maspalomas or the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Las Palmas, you’re sure to be having a memorable time as you soak up the sun and the atmosphere.

Gran Canaria In A Nutshell

After Dark Destinations
  • The Eiffel Bar is one of the top picks for those after more of a sophisticated evening in Gran Canaria. Found in Playa del Ingles, French and Spanish wine are top of the menu along with the décor for a true taste of the Canary Islands. Expect a free plate of marshmallows with your drinks for an extra cute touch.
  • For a night that definitely won’t drag, swing by Ricky’s Cabaret Bar for an evening of glitz, glam and lip-syncing that will put Britney to shame. Comedy performances are added to the mix for a bit of laughter accompanied by an extensive drinks list.

  • Las Canteras is the longest beach on Gran Canaria and a playground for holiday makers wanting to sunbathe and surf while your soak up the rays. Close by are bars, restaurants and shops too, ideal for a family day out.
  • For Instagram-worthy snaps, Maspalomas is one of the most iconic beaches in the Canary Islands. Pristine-white sands and dunes as well as turquoise waters means you are guaranteed an idyllic time. The area is a nature reserve too, so you can expect unspoilt vistas throughout.
  • Playa Del Inglés - the English beach - sees visitors flock to the golden sands. Ideal for a sunbathe after a hard night of dancing the night before, bars and clubs can be found nearby, and it’s most well-known for its gay district.

  • To get wet and wild in Gran Canaria, Aqualand in Maspalomas boasts 30 waterslides to jet down along with attractions such as CrazyRace and Aquamania for an extra splash of fun. Even the littlest ones will enjoy themselves thanks to the Children’s Paradise area as well as a Pirate’s River where you can relax in a rubber ring. Snack bars and ice cream stands are dotted throughout too for a little sweet indulgence.
  • Alternatively, Holiday World is close by to Aqualand and is easily one of the most popular venues in the whole of the area. Drive your own boat, ride the rollercoasters or get aboard the train.
  • For a slightly slower pace and to get up close and personal with wildlife, head to Palmitos Park which features gibbons, orangutans and meerkats to admire. Set in the beautiful dunes of Maspalomas, you are accompanied with brilliant views throughout.
