Visit the stunning Vallée de Mai

Known as the ‘Heart of Praslin’, Vallée de Mai is a truly gorgeous World Conservation site dedicated to the preservation and repopulation of the Seychelles indigenous Coco de Mer palm jungle. Set in a verdant green valley, this lush haven of tropical foliage has also been referred to as the Garden of Eden thanks to its somewhat mystical atmosphere and unique species of flora and fauna.

There are more than 1,400 endangered trees here with some estimated to be around 300 years old and 27 metres high. Through various guides, signs and interactive exhibits, you’ll learn about the unique conservation process in place to ensure the consistent extraction of foreign plant life which has led to the Coco de Mer palm being included on the World Conservation Union’s red list.

The site is particularly famous for its Glacis Noire Trail which has been recently renovated to be made suitable for wheelchair users. The track guides visitors on the most scenic route through the 44-square-mile reserve, showcasing a number of fascinating plant species along the way. Better yet, the Vallée de Mai is also home to the incredibly rare Black Parrot, an elusive and intriguing island inhabitant. The pinnacle of the trail suddenly opens onto 360-degree views of the park, which will look amazing on your Instagram feed.

WINGED BOOTS WISDOM

Want to know a little more? All of the main buildings on the park site provide a brochure with additional notes and information that will help you and your little ones spot indigenous life such as geckos, frogs and the large-billed bulbul.
