Embark on a private tour of Dambulla Temple
An iconic landmark of Sri Lanka there’s no better way to explore the Dambulla rock temple then with a private tour.
Sometimes known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla as well as being a World Heritage Site, be prepared for a little exercise before-hand as there are a set of very steep stairs to climb before reaching the venue. Make sure to admire the monkeys found along the way, and if you squint, you may be able to see the ancient town of Sigiriya in the distance.
Expect buddha statues to be everywhere you look, with even one on the roof, as you make your way through the five separate caves that contain around 150 of them in total! The ‘Sleeping Buddha’ is definitely the main attraction, with its carvings and large size captivating all who come across it. Every painting found on the walls showcases some of the history of the area too, with the venue being a place of worship since 1BC. Various works of art have been added to the site when new kings came into power.
Once your tour is over and you’ve reached the bottom of the stairs, grab a taxi and head back to your hotel with a new perspective on life.
WINGED BOOTS WISDOM
Due to the venue being a religious site, shoulders and knees should be covered regardless of gender and footwear is prohibited.
