San Sebastian In A Nutshell

  • If you don’t believe us when we say that this is one of the world’s best foodie hang outs, believe the facts! This Basque city has more Michelin stars per capita than anywhere else in the world and has three restaurants in the World’s Top 20.
  • If you want to sample the region’s signature tapas known as pintxos then there’s really only one place to go – Bar Zeruko in Old Town is one of the most revered producers of the speciality in the whole of Spain.
  • Seafood is an integral part of the San Sebastian diet due to its proximity to the sea. Dishes such as bacalao pil pil (fried cod) and pecebes (barnacles) are particularly common treats to enjoy.

  • Take your little ones to make some fishy friends at the world-famous San Sebastián Aquarium. One of the most popular attractions in the Basque region, this harbourside marine museum has plenty of interesting animals to keep the whole family intrigued.
  • With so many beaches at your disposal, it’s not surprising that watersports are always on the agenda for family holidays. Particularly popular are paddle board or kayaking lessons at Playa Concha.
  • For some thrilling fun and old-world magic, a day trip to Monte Igueldo Amusement Park is a must. With the third oldest funicular in Spain taking visitors to heady heights for some indescribable views as well as a number of child-friendly rides, this will be an experience to remember.

  • There are three main beaches in San Sebastian as well as a number of smaller coves, bays and pebble stretches.
  • La Concha is the most famous of the regions seafronts and has featured in a number of travel magazines for its stunning views, balmy waters and family-friendly activities.
  • The more urbanised beach, Ondarreta is located under a mountain slope, making it quite popular in summer for its shady retreats. With sculptures, eateries and other amenities close by, you should arrive here early in the warmer months to save your space.
  • For a youthful, surfer vibe, Zurriola beach is the place to see and be seen. Remodelled in 1994, the sands are impeccable and the waves are some of the best on Spain’s coast.
