Ushguli villae at the foot of Mt. Shkhara
Batumi, Georgia

Best for: Culture vultures

Thanks to its recent exposure through TV shows such as Joanna Lumley’s Silk Road Adventure, which aired in August 2018, Georgia has fast-tracked a place on our Agent Recommended Destination’s list. “There have been a couple of television shows about Georgia recently, which has hugely impacted awareness with UK travellers. Plus, those who have visited are raving about it once they come back,” David Ox, managing director of Winged Boots, says. “It might not be a destination you necessarily thought of, but it’s firmly on my bucket list,” he adds. Sharing its border with Armenia and Azerbaijan, this European nation has a lot to offer travellers, thanks to its diverse landscape that boasts mountains, beaches and cities.
The Caucasus Mountains are a must for any intrepid explorer that want to conquer a challenging hike. Various walking trails are available should you want to relish stunning nature, or alternatively you can head to some of the resorts and enjoy a relaxing ski break with loved ones. A popular destination for climbers, walkers and skiers, you’ve hit the jackpot if you’re after a holiday of adventure.
Cities such as the capital of Tbilisi are brimming with cathedrals and monasteries, many of which are UNESCO-listed. Mtskheta is the oldest city and boasts culture by the bucketload. Top of your To Do list should be Javri Monastery. Located on the top of a mountain, you can expect magical views of the meeting between the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, and the archaic architecture that has made Mtskheta so great.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Warner. Bros World

Best For: Families

Merging cosmopolitan life with the traditions of the Middle East, Abu Dhabi is firmly in the running as one of our top destinations to head to this year. Quieter than its neighbour Dubai, here you can embark on a desert dinner safari before enjoying an evening at one of the rooftop bars found in the emirate. Charley Curwood, a Winged Boots personal travel executive, says that if you haven’t been to Abu Dhabi, you definitely should in 2019. “It’s a great alternative for those who have already visited Dubai,” Charley says. “Many hotels have opened up in recent years, and with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix hosted here every November, it’s a great time to visit if you’re into F1,” he adds.
Abu Dhabi is also a brilliant choice for families. From the Louvre Abu Dhabi that opened its doors in 2017 and the new Warner Bros. Studios on Yas Island, there’s plenty to keep little ones entertained and Charley agrees. “Due to Abu Dhabi being quite quiet, you can expect the theme parks to have reasonable queue times and minimal crows,” he says.

Muscat Mosque

Best For: Authentic Arabia

A new entrant in the Agent Recommended Destinations list, Oman offers an authentic taste of age-old Arabia. Think endless desert dunes, stunning architecture and streets bursting with history and culture. But why should you come here? “Oman is great if you want the best of both worlds from your trip,” Guy Humphrey, Winged Boots content writer, says. “You can spend half your time trekking in the mountains, and the other half on the beach. It’s great for all travellers that simply can’t decide where to head to.”
If that wasn’t enough, there are a whole host of five-star hotels waiting to welcome you with open arms throughout the year. Expect to be treated like a king or queen at Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz-Carlton Hotel with its lavish interiors and private beach, or alternatively Six Senses Zighy Bay promises peace and quiet, with its secluded location, beachfront villas and just the sound of the sea to wake you up in the morning. With more than 70 villas and suites that beautifully merge the traditional with more modern interiors, the hotel really is a sight for sore eyes.

The Maldives
Joali Maldives

Best for: Couples

It’s a returning favourite that’s loved by us and many of our customers - we simply can’t get enough of these stunning islands. The Maldives is an idyllic destination that many people can only dream of. In 2019, it’s time to make that dream a reality with Winged Boots. Ryan Collins, our personal travel manager, agrees, and after he went there last year, it’s definitely one of his top recommendations. “The Maldives looks exactly like it does in pictures - if not better,” Ryan says. “The hotels are out-of-this-world and they cater to both families and couples that are after the perfect holiday in the sun,” he adds.
Huvafen Fushi is just one of these. This adults-only resort is a magical sanctuary in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and should definitely be high up on the list if you’re thinking about booking a honeymoon or a holiday with your other half. The hotel is home to the world’s first underwater spa and there’s also four restaurants and two bars to take advantage of too. Snorkelling and diving experiences are able to be booked with ease, and don’t even get us started on the accommodation. Just click here and you’ll find out for yourself.
Alternatively, the 73 villas that make up Joali Maldives are sure to live up to expectations. The definition of elegance and island chic, you won’t ever want to leave. Each of the villas can accommodate up to eight people and optional butler service, and there’s also four restaurants to make you way through. With Italian, Japanese, Mediterranean and Chinese on the menu, the hardest decision will be where to head to first.

Kruger National Park
Leopard Hills Lodge at Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Best for: Once-in-a-lifetime moments

On the bucket list of many travellers, embarking on a safari in South Africa is one of our top picks for 2019 that just had to make our Agent Recommended Destinations roundup. The iconic Kruger National Park is home to the Big 5 - lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalos – as well as antelopes, giraffes, hippos and more than a hundred species of birds. “Staying in a luxury lodge and spending your days seeing animals is a must when in South Africa,” Emma Littlebury, personal travel manager, says. “Leopard Hills Lodge at Sabi Sands Game Reserve is brilliant as you’re right by an active watering hole so you can see animals in their natural habitat right from the comfort of your own room.”
However, that’s not all South Africa has to offer. The bustling city of Cape Town is home to some wonderful beaches and the iconic Table Mountain. If a safari wasn’t enough, animal enthusiasts will adore Boulders Beach. One of Cape Town’s most visited landmarks, here you can meet the African penguins that call the sands their home. Alternatively, you can also spend an afternoon wine tasting in the neighbouring towns of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, both an hour away by car. For lovers of fine vino, One&Only Cape Town even has a Wine Loft that features endless bottles of red, white and rosé. Simply choose one that takes your fancy and you have the perfect evening ahead of you.

The Gili Islands

Best for: Unspoilt beauty

Known for its volcanos, rice fields, beaches and coral reefs, Bali is paradise redefined which is why our personal travel managers recommend you visit in 2019. Whether you choose to stay in stunning Ubud, beachy Kuts or bustling Seminyak (although we say all three), you’ll soon fall in love with this Indonesian isle.. “It’s a great mix of culture,” Claire Baker, Winged Boots personal travel manager, says. “You can easily travel throughout Bali without flying and head to jungles, beaches and tropical islands. No two days will be the same.”
One of Claire’s top places to go is the Gili Islands. “It takes two-hours by fast boat from Bali and is a phenomenal day trip,” she says. “The Gili Islands look just like the Maldives and you can even swim with the turtles that inhabit the sands. Not only that, but if you’re a fan of watersports, you’re sure to love the diving and snorkelling opportunities there too.”
The best time to head to Bali is June through to September. “The weather is great in the summer,” Claire says. “Average temperatures are 27-degrees, but it can quite often get into the 30s,” she finishes. Bali has a great surf vibe too, with many brilliant spots found throughout the island. Bukit Peninsula is fantastic if you consider yourself a pro or alternatively head to the lagoons for smaller waves if you’re a beginner. Board rentals and surf schools are widespread throughout Bali, so if you’ve always wanted to give surfing a go, now’s your chance!

Kensho Psarou

Best for: Party animals

Where the A-list swarm and every traveller wants to be, Mykonos is one of our top contenders for first place when it comes to our Agent Recommended Destinations for 2019. “With both fantastic beaches and legendary nightlife, this Grecian beauty is the place to be if you fancy letting your hair down,” Louise Silverman, Winged Boots personal travel manager, says. “There’s nothing better than relaxing on the beach with a cocktail of a glass of wine, and sunbathing to your heart’s content.”
It wouldn’t be a trip to Mykonos if you didn’t spend a day or two in one of the beach clubs. From the gorgeous interiors and Mediterranean cuisine served at Scorpios and the lively DJ sets of Nammos Mykonos to the saltwater swimming pool and live acts of SantAnna, you can easily spend your whole holiday hopping from one beach club to the next, and still not to have been to them all! Many of the hotels are also hubs for night-owls, with private beaches, grand spas and phenomenal living spaces coming as standard. Kenshō Psarou Hotel is one of the hottest hotels, and for good reason. Designer interiors found in every room, freshly caught seafood in the restaurants and various watersports on offer… it’s an Instagram post waiting to happen and has been since it opened in 2018!
