ACCOMMODATION

A wide choice of accommodation ensures that every traveller is satisfied when staying at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. Suites, cabins, chalets, houses and igloos… the world is your oyster. Chill out in the Snow Igloos or take in the amazing views when in the Glass Igloos. If that wasn’t enough there’s also Kelo-Glass Igloos which are an amalgamation of the Glass Igloos and the log chalets. Larger options boast private saunas, fireplaces and kitchenettes, too.

Glass Igloos

Available to stay in from the end of August through to April, the Glass Igloos give you the chance to relish the Northern Lights directly from your bed on a clear sky. The two-person igloos also have a toilet and the option of an extra bed with saunas and showers available in a separate building. Alternatively, if you’re part of a larger group then the four-person igloos are more spacious and also feature an ensuite shower.

      Log Chalets

The Log Chalets are ideal if you’re after the quintessential stay in Finland. Varying in space to accommodate up to 10 people, families and larger groups are sure to be in their element. Furnishings are inspired by the wild surroundings, with a fireplace and a sauna found in each option.

          Gold Digger’s Chalet

With the Gold Digger’s Chalet standing further away from the hotel then the rest of the accommodation, this choice promises tranquility and serenity. Located on the riverbanks, the sound of rushing water is all you’ll hear. There’s a private sauna to get cosy in when the sun sets, and there’s also a kick sled in the front yard so you can get to the main hotel quickly.

              Location

              • Just 30-minutes from Ivalo Airport, Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort can be found. With nothing but forests and snow in the colder months, this hotel is nothing short of spectacular. DINING

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort boasts five restaurants to tantalise your tastebuds. Two are open to all guests while a further three cater to large groups and private events specifically. The two public restaurants serve delicious Lappish cuisine with fresh ingredients used in every dish. Guests can either enjoy a meal at the traditional Restaurant Kelo in the East Village or the more modern Restaurant Aurora in the West Village which also boasts a fantastic glass igloo bar where up to 50 guests can enjoy drinks under the arctic sky.

              LEISURE

The leisure facilities at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort are fantastic. With three on-site smoke saunas you can detox your mind, body and soul before heading out on the various excursions that are able to be booked through the hotel. Families and big kids will adore the chance to see Santa, too. If that wasn’t enough, spa and massage services are available upon request or alternatively take advantage of the equipment and winter clothing rental just in case you’ve forgotten any kit. Oh, and if you’re thinking of tying the knot somewhere different there’s a chapel that’s carved from snow and ice by a local Lappish artist open every January.

              Visit Santa’s Home

You don’t even have to leave the resort to discover if you’ve been naughty or nice this year. Unlatching the doors of his home to the public, all guests can make a trip to see Saint Nick at the end of a walking bridge that takes you across a narrow river. In the distance you’ll see the twinkling lights of Santa’s Celebration House which accommodates up to 300 guests for corporate use or for any events, and is open all year round. Traditionally Nordic in design with stone and log exterior, it really is a place of beauty. Be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

              Take a dip

Saunas are a way of life for the locals. Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort has three different-sized smoke saunas, the largest of which is the biggest in the world. Combined, 100 people can take advantage of the wellness sanctuary, and nearby there’s also a jetty that you can jump off and enjoy a cold paddle afterwards.

              Experiences galore

The various excursions and experiences that you can do at this hotel are almost endless. From seeing the Northern Lights by horseback if the sky is clear, fishing trips and hiking in the Autumn to embarking on a riverside cruise in the summer, adventure lovers are sure to have the time of their lives. In the winter you can explore the beauty of Finland via husky sled, snowmobile or skis which are ideal if you prefer snow rather than sun.
