“If you want to sift through waves in a more traditional way make sure you go on a dhow cruise. Experience how a locally built vessel runs and race your friends as you soar through the Indian Ocean watching the sun set,”

DINING

Azura Quilalea aims to give hotel guests a unique dining experience every time they are feeling peckish. Promising to never let you eat in the same area twice (unless you request to, of course), here you choose where you want to dine from the beach to in-villa and even in the resort’s exclusive wine cellar. A personal butler and chef service ensures a private affair from day through to night. Mangrove Crabs are a particular speciality you’d be a fool to miss out on, with the local Crayfish another frequent star of the menu.

LEISURE

Where do we begin with the leisure activities on offer? From whale and dolphin watching to scuba diving, there’s a plethora of ocean-based excursions just waiting for you to take advantage of. Nervous about delving into the ocean, head first? Get to grips with a snorkel before completing a crash course at the PADI-certified dive centre. You’ll be chasing all the colourful wonders in no time.

Alternatively, admire the ocean from a kayak and paddle over to one of two neighbouring islands. Say hi to the locals or simply stroll along the idyllic sands and enjoy the gorgeous African sunset… if you were planning on asking a special question – this would be a good spot.

Have a whale of a time

Humpback whales can be spotted from July through to November when they annually migrate to the warmer waters. Whale watching trips can be organised on requested. Spinner and Humpback dolphins can also be admired all year through and are a true sight to behold.

explore the ocean floor

Prefer to explore the depths of the ocean rather than admire it on land? Snorkelling and scuba diving excursions are available for thrill seekers wanting an underwater adventure. For beginners and nervous divers, head to the PADI-certified centre where a full range of courses can be taken to get you soaring through the waves in no time.

You can also enjoy a peaceful fishing experience with tropical creatures littering the Indian Ocean for a tasty treat. Barracuda, yellow-fin tuna and wahoo can all be caught here with salt water fly fishing another option for those wanting to pick up a new skill.

adventure to neighboring islands

See more of Mozambique by exploring Azura Quilalea’s neighbouring islands. Take a canoe or kayak and paddle to the uninhabited island of Sencar where you can enjoy island walks and coastal trails. Alternatively, Quirimba is the place to go if you want to get to grips with the locals and experience a slice of their island lifestyle. Learn about hut building as you venture through the tribal village greeting the residents while soaking up the African culture.
